Jewelry Care
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver does tarnish when
exposed to air. So keep you sterling silver jewelry in a plastic bag when
not in use. With a little care your silver jewelry will always look as beautiful
as when you first bought it. I highly recommend jewelry cloths that have
a cleaning side to remove tarnish and a polishing side to shine your jewelry.

14K Gold
Gold does not tarnish but does lose its shine over a period of time and can be polished to regain its luster. Store in jewelry Bag or in a jewelry box and avoid pieces of jewelry from rubbing against each other. Chains should be hung or placed in separate
compartments to avoid tangling and kinks.
Pearls
Freshwater or Akoya or any others even swarovksi pearls must be stored separately so as not to rub against other jewelry. Don't store your pearls with other jewelry, because they can be scratched easily when metal or gemstones rub against them. Find a special slot in your jewelry box for the pearls, or keep them in a soft bag made from chamois or another non-abrasive material.
Your fine pearl necklaces should be restrung periodically so that you're sure the silk or nylon cord holding them is in good shape. Your pearls will stay cleaner if you put them on after you've applied your makeup and perfume.
* Be sure to take off your pearl rings before you apply hand and body creams. Wipe your pearls with a soft, lint-free cloth as soon as you take them off.
Tips on How to Clean and Restore Shine to Jewelry
Sterling Silver
Silver chains that have no stones can be dipped in silver tarnish remover liquid to remove tarnish and then run under cold water and tapped dry with a cotton or paper towel. Any silver jewelry that has gemstones or pearls must be cleaned with a cleaning cloth. A two piece jewelry cloth has a cleaning/tarnish removing agent in one cloth and a polishing agent in the other cloth. Two piece premium cleaning cloths are available for sale at a great price on this website. To maintain shine between cleaning of Sterling silver jewelry, store in air tight tarnish resistant plastic bags. (provided with each purchase made on this website)
Pearls
Pearls can be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution (try Ivory flakes).
- Never clean your pearls with solutions that contain ammonia or harsh detergents.
- Don't put pearl jewelry in an ultrasonic cleaner.
- Don't use abrasive cleaners or rub pearls with abrasive cloth. Both can wear away the nacre coating, leaving you with a plain looking bead.
- Wipe pearls off with a Soft cloth after each use.
Gemstones
Most gemstones other than rubies sapphires and Emeralds are fairly soft, so they must be treated with care. Store each piece in a separate Bag or box so they don’t get scratched by the metal in them or from other pieces. Organic gems like pearls, Amber and Coral are porous and require special care. Make sure you don’t expose them to hairspray, perfume and lotions. Store them in cloth lined pouch or box and protect from scratching. Fingerprints and skin oils can mar the luster of gemstones, so it’s a good idea to wipe them clean with a soft lint free cloth after each use.
